The Lake Champlain Etchells fleet
was formed in August, 2000, by Dave Powlison, Ernie and Bette Reuter, Rick Stevens, Don O’Brien and Jack
Milbank. In the Etchells, they found a boat with classic lines but
modern performance, a boat that does not require a lot of crew or an
extensive sail inventory. Best of all, it’s a one-design. The appeal
was widespread, and within a couple of years, the fleet grew from five
boats to over a dozen. Today, it’s not unusual for the entire fleet to
turn out for Wednesday night races. The fleet also races on weekends.
Fleet
25 has hosted several regattas, including a New England Championship.
The fleet also regularly offers on- and off-the-water tuning clinics to
help improve the quality of the entire fleet, as well as rules seminars.
We’re always eager for additional boats to join our fleet. If you don’t
have a boat, we can help you find one. And if boat ownership is not in
the cards for you, sign up on this website as a crew! There’s almost
always a way to get on the water and enjoy one of the most competitive
fleets on the lake.
